How Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) Mode Works in Squad Blitz for College Football

Squad Blitz’s Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) mode brings a fast-paced, high-energy twist to college fantasy football, letting you compete in weekly contests without the commitment of a season-long league. Perfect for fans who love the thrill of crafting new lineups each week, DFS mode challenges you to build a winning squad based on real-time college football performances. This guide explains how DFS mode works in Squad Blitz, optimized for college fantasy football fans who are ready to enjoy a new way to watch football each Saturday!

What is DFS Mode in Squad Blitz?

Unlike season-long leagues where you manage a squad for the entire college football season, Squad Blitz’s DFS mode lets you draft a new team each week and compete against others who are trying to outscore you one week at a time. You select college teams—not individual players—for specific categories (passing, rushing, and defense/special teams) to score points based on their real-world game performances. DFS mode is ideal for fans who want quick, action-packed contests, whether you’re targeting a big SEC matchup or a thrilling Group of Five showdown.

How to Play DFS Mode

1. Choose a Contest and Slate

In DFS mode, you start by selecting a contest from the DFS Lobby (accessible via the Squad Blitz app or website). Contests are based on a slate—a set of college football games for a given week, ranging from small 4-game slates to larger 12-game slates. Each slate offers different strategic challenges:

  • Small Slates (e.g., 4 games): With only 8 teams to choose from, your picks require precision to avoid repetitive lineups.
  • Large Slates (e.g., 12 games): More teams mean greater lineup diversity, letting you mix and match for optimal scoring.

Each week’s contest will be different in terms of teams on the slate, we’ll be trying new variations as this is our first full season with DFS!  Slates could range from SEC only to Top 25 teams to everyone involved that weekend.  Let us know how you’d build out your perfect Saturday slate.

2. Build Your Lineup

Once you’ve entered a contest, head to the Lineup Builder to build your squad. Your lineup consists of five positions:

  • 2 Passing Offenses: Select two teams to score points based on passing yards, passing touchdowns, and deductions for interceptions.
  • 2 Rushing Offenses: Choose two teams to earn points for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and deductions for lost fumbles.
  • 1 Team Defense/Special Teams: Pick one team to score points for turnovers, sacks, defensive/special teams touchdowns, field goals, and holding opponents under 17 points (with deductions for allowing over 17 points or 300+ yards).

Each team can only be used in one category, so even if a Big Ten powerhouse excels in multiple areas, you’ll need to choose strategically. Squad Blitz provides betting lines to help predict team performance, but note that predictive stats are still in development.

3. Salary Cap and Strategy

DFS mode uses a salary cap system, where each team is assigned a value based on how good that team is, among many other factors. You must build your lineup within the cap, balancing high-value teams (like a top-tier SEC offense) with undervalued gems (like a MAC team with a favorable matchup). Check team averages and opponent schedules to optimize your picks, and avoid teams on bye weeks to ensure active scoring.

4. Scoring and Updates

Points are awarded based on real-world game stats, scoring follows Squad Blitz’s team-based system:

  • Passing: Points for yards and touchdowns, deductions for interceptions.
  • Rushing: Points for yards and touchdowns, deductions for fumbles.
  • Defense/Special Teams: Points for turnovers, sacks, touchdowns, field goals, and low opponent scores; deductions for high opponent points/yards.

Scores may fluctuate on Saturday as games conclude, with final totals locked in on Monday night to account for stat corrections. Track your progress in the Scores tab to see how your lineup stacks up.

5. Compete and Win

After setting your lineup, watch the games and root for your selected teams. Compete against other players in your contest, with winners determined by total points scored. Top performers can earn bragging rights or rewards as the season goes on!
