What is a Squad in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football?

Squad Blitz redefines college fantasy football with a fresh, team-based approach that sets it apart from traditional player-based formats. Instead of drafting individual athletes, you build a Squad—a collection of college football teams that compete for you across the season. This guide explains what a Squad is, how to build and manage it, and why it’s the key to dominating your league.

What is a Squad?

In Squad Blitz, a Squad is your roster of college football teams, carefully selected to score points in three categories: passing, rushing, and defense/special teams. Unlike traditional fantasy football, where you draft players like quarterbacks or running backs, Squad Blitz lets you pick entire teams—from powerhouse SEC programs to scrappy Group of Five underdogs. Your Squad is your ticket to glory, representing your strategic vision as you compete for the top spot on the leaderboard.

The size of your Squad depends on your league owner’s settings, but every week, you’ll choose teams to fill six lineup spots: two for passing, two for rushing, and two for defense/special teams. This unique setup lets you root for your favorite college teams while strategically balancing their strengths to maximize points.

How to Build a Squad

Building a winning Squad is the foundation of your college fantasy football experience. Squad Blitz offers two main ways to construct your roster:

  • Drafting: At the start of the season, you participate in a snake draft to select your teams. With a randomized draft order, you’ll have a set amount of time to pick from any available college team. Whether you’re targeting a Big Ten passing attack or a Sun Belt rushing machine, the draft is your chance to build a Squad that reflects your college football knowledge.
  • Acquiring Teams: After the draft, you can enhance your Squad through trading with other players or by picking up teams from the transfer portal. The transfer portal acts like free agency, listing teams not currently on any squad in your league. It’s a great way to snag a breakout team that’s heating up mid-season, like a MAC squad dominating in conference.

How to Manage a Squad

Managing your Squad is where strategy comes to life in Squad Blitz. Throughout the season, you’ll need to make smart decisions to keep your roster competitive:

  • Set Your Lineup: Each week, choose one team for each of the six lineup spots (two passing, two rushing, two defense/special teams). Check matchups, betting lines, and team averages to optimize your selections, and avoid starting teams on bye weeks to prevent scoring zeros.
  • Make Trades: Trading is a powerful tool to improve your Squad. Navigate to the Trade tab in League Details to swap one of your teams for another player’s, giving you a chance to strengthen weak categories or capitalize on emerging stars.
  • Use the Transfer Portal: Keep an eye on the transfer portal to pick up unowned teams that could elevate your Squad. Whether it’s a Pac-12 team on a hot streak or a Conference USA defense racking up sacks, the portal is your opportunity to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Adjust Your Budget: Squad Blitz allows you to tweak your budget at any time, helping you manage resources for trades or portal pickups (if your league uses a budget system).

Why Squads Matter for College Fantasy Football

The Squad system in Squad Blitz offers a unique twist on fantasy football, letting you build a roster of your favorite college teams and strategize like a true athletic director. By drafting, trading, and using the transfer portal, you can create a dynamic Squad that adapts to the ups and downs of the college football season. It’s a test of your knowledge, from spotting breakout teams to avoiding traps like tough matchups.

What is the Transfer Portal in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football?

In Squad Blitz, the transfer portal is the key to keeping your college fantasy football squad competitive throughout the season. Think of it as the equivalent of free agency in traditional fantasy football, but with a team-based twist that’s perfect for college football fans. This guide explains how the transfer portal works in Squad Blitz.

Understanding the Transfer Portal

The transfer portal in Squad Blitz is a pool of undrafted college teams that are available for pickup during the season. Unlike the draft, where you select your initial squad, the transfer portal lets you add new teams to your roster as the college football season unfolds. Whether it’s a Group of Five squad lighting up the scoreboard or a Power Four team finding its groove, the transfer portal is your chance to snag unowned talent and stay ahead of the competition.

How to Use the Transfer Portal

Adding a team from the transfer portal is simple but requires strategic planning:

  • Drop to Add: To pick up a team from the transfer portal, you must drop one team from your current squad. This keeps your roster size within the league’s settings, ensuring balance and fairness.
  • First Come, First Serve: Currently, Squad Blitz operates on a first-come, first-serve basis for transfer portal pickups, with no waiver period. If you spot a hot team—like a MAC defense racking up turnovers or a Sun Belt offense piling up rushing yards—move quickly to claim them before someone else does.
  • Locked Teams Can’t Start: If a team in the transfer portal has already played their real-world game for the week (i.e., they’re locked), you can still add them to your squad, but they can’t be placed in a starting lineup spot until the next week. This makes timing critical—check game schedules to maximize your pickups.

To access the transfer portal, navigate to the appropriate section in the Squad Blitz app or website, select the team you want to add, and choose a team to drop. It’s a quick process that keeps your squad fresh and ready for any challenge.

Why the Transfer Portal Matters for College Fantasy Football

The transfer portal is vital for success in Squad Blitz, allowing you to adapt your roster to the unpredictability of the college football season. Maybe your Big 12 passing team is underperforming, or a Conference USA squad is emerging as a defensive powerhouse. The transfer portal lets you pivot, swapping out underachievers for breakout teams that can boost your points in passing, rushing, or defense/special teams. It’s a test of your college football savvy, rewarding those who stay on top of trends and matchups.

Strategic Tips for Using the Transfer Portal

  • Act Fast: With no waiver period, speed is key. Monitor the portal regularly to grab high-value teams before your opponents.
  • Watch Matchups: Check upcoming schedules and betting lines to identify teams with favorable games. A team facing a weak opponent could be a great pickup for a big week.
  • Replace Bye Week Teams: Use the portal to swap out teams on bye weeks, ensuring your lineup stays active and competitive.
  • Track Performance Trends: Look for teams on hot streaks or those benefiting from a quarterback change or new offensive scheme to maximize your scoring potential.

Build a Winning Squad with the Transfer Portal

Ready to take your college fantasy football squad to the next level? Visit squadblitz.com to join a league, draft your teams, and start exploring the transfer portal. With first-come, first-serve pickups and a pool of undrafted teams, Squad Blitz gives you the tools to keep your roster fresh and competitive. Dive into the transfer portal, make strategic moves, and dominate your league with a squad built for college football glory!

What is a Locked Team?

In Squad Blitz, a locked team is a team that has already played for the week. Locked teams will have a lock icon next to them in the Squad Blitz app.

What Can’t I Do with a Locked Team?

There are a few things that you can’t do with a locked team:

  • Move them to a starting position.
  • Move them out of an active starting position.
  • Trade them immediately.
  • Drop or add them in the transfer portal.

Why Are Teams Locked?

Teams are locked to help keep competitive balance. If teams could be traded or dropped after they had already played, it would give an unfair advantage to teams that had more time to make trades and adjustments.

When Will My Locked Team Unlock?

Your locked team will unlock on Monday night. Any trades that your team was involved in will process at that time.

If you have any questions about locked teams, please contact Squad Blitz support.

How Trading Works in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football

Trading is a game-changer in college fantasy football, and Squad Blitz makes it easy to swap teams and elevate your squad’s potential. With its unique team-based format, trading in Squad Blitz lets you exchange entire college teams to reshape your roster and outsmart your opponents. Follow along below to learn the ins and outs of trading with Squad Blitz.

Initiating a Trade: The Process

In Squad Blitz, trading is all about elevating your squad by swapping one team for another. To start a trade, navigate to the Update section in League Details and select the Trade tab. Here’s how it works:

  1. Select Your Team: Choose one team from your squad that you’re willing to trade—maybe a Big 12 passing juggernaut that doesn’t fit your strategy.
  2. Choose a Target Team: Pick a team from another player’s squad that you want in return, like an SEC rushing powerhouse or a Group of Five defensive gem.
  3. Send the Trade Request: Once you submit the trade, the other player has 2 days to accept it. If they don’t respond within 48 hours, the trade is automatically rejected.

You can cancel the trade at any time during the 2-day window if you change your mind, giving you flexibility to rethink your strategy.

Trade Rules: One-to-One and Timing

Squad Blitz keeps trading simple with a one-to-one format—you trade one team for one team, no multi-team deals or complex packages. The processing of the trade depends on the status of the teams involved:

  • Both Teams Unlocked: If neither team has played their real-world game for the week (i.e., both are unlocked), the trade processes automatically once accepted.
  • Both Teams on the Bench: If both teams are on the bench (not in a starting lineup), the trade also processes automatically upon acceptance.
  • One Team Locked: If either team is in a starting position and locked (their game has started), the trade is accepted but enters a processing state. Both teams remain on their current squads for the week, and the trade finalizes after the week’s games conclude.

This system ensures fairness while keeping the game moving, even during the chaotic college football schedule.

Trade Rejections: What to Watch For

A trade can be rejected under certain conditions to maintain roster integrity:

  • No Response: If the other player doesn’t accept within 2 days, the trade is automatically rejected.
  • Team No Longer Available: If either team involved in the trade is dropped to the transfer portal or traded in a separate deal while the trade is pending, the trade is rejected.
  • Manual Cancellation: You can cancel your trade request at any time during the 2-day window, giving you control over your roster moves.

These rules prevent roster chaos and ensure trades align with the fast-paced nature of college fantasy football.

Why Trading Matters for College Fantasy Football

Trading in Squad Blitz adds a thrilling layer of strategy, letting you fine-tune your roster to capitalize on matchups or shore up weaknesses. Need a stronger passing team to counter a tough Big Ten defense? Or want to trade for a MAC squad with a knack for defensive touchdowns? Trading lets you adapt your lineup to chase leaderboard dominance. Successful trades can turn a good squad into a championship contender.

How the Leaderboard is Calculated in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football

In college fantasy football, tracking your team’s performance is the key to bragging rights and playoff glory. Squad Blitz makes it easy to stay on top of your standings with a clear and competitive leaderboard. Understanding how the leaderboard is calculated in Squad Blitz will help you strategize, whether you’re chasing a championship or battling to climb the ranks. This guide breaks down the leaderboard system, optimized for college fantasy football fans ready to dominate their leagues.

Wins and Losses: The Foundation of the Leaderboard

The Squad Blitz leaderboard ranks teams primarily based on wins and losses. Each week, your squad faces off against another team in your league, and the outcome of these head-to-head matchups determines your record. A win boosts your standing, while a loss means it’s time to tweak your roster. Keeping track of your wins is the first step to securing a spot in the playoffs and cementing your status as a champion.

Tiebreaker #1: Points Scored

When teams have the same number of wins, Squad Blitz uses points scored as the first tiebreaker. This rewards teams that consistently rack up points with high-performing squads. Every yard, touchdown, and clutch play from your starting lineup contributes to your total points, so drafting and starting teams with big-play potential is crucial. Check your team’s scoring trends to see if you’re maximizing your roster’s output.

Tiebreaker #2: Points Scored Against

If teams are still tied after comparing points scored, the second tiebreaker is points scored against. This measures the total points your opponents have scored against you throughout the season. A lower points-against total can give you the edge, as it reflects your ability to face less explosive opponents or capitalize on favorable matchups.

Tracking Trends with the League Details Arrow

Squad Blitz makes it easy to monitor your team’s performance with a handy arrow in the top right of the League Details section. This arrow shows your team’s recent trends—whether you’re on a hot streak or need to shake things up. Are you climbing the leaderboard with a string of wins, or is it time to hit the waiver wire for a Group of Five sleeper? This feature keeps you informed and ready to adjust your strategy as the college football season unfolds.

Why the Leaderboard Matters for College Fantasy Football

The leaderboard is your roadmap to the playoffs in Squad Blitz. By prioritizing wins, points scored, and points against, it creates a fair and competitive ranking system that rewards smart roster management and strategic matchups. Whether you’re aiming to lock up a top seed or claw your way into the postseason, the leaderboard tells you exactly where you stand. It’s the pulse of your college fantasy football league, fueling rivalries and driving you to outsmart your opponents.

How the Draft Works in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football

Squad Blitz brings the excitement of college fantasy football to life with a dynamic and user-friendly draft process. Understanding how the draft works is key to building a championship-caliber squad. This guide breaks down the draft process in Squad Blitz.

The Snake Draft:

Squad Blitz uses a traditional snake draft format, a fan favorite for its fairness and strategic depth. The draft order is randomized at the start, giving every player an equal chance at landing the top pick. In a snake draft, the order reverses each round—meaning if you pick last in the first round, you’ll pick first in the second. This keeps things competitive as you strategize to build a balanced roster.

When it’s your turn, you select a team to join your squad. Each team can only be drafted by one owner, so choose wisely—once a team is taken, they’re off the board. However, Squad Blitz offers flexibility: you can start that team at any position your league’s settings allow, giving you creative control over your lineup.

Auto-Pick List: Never Miss a Pick

Life gets busy, but Squad Blitz ensures you never miss a draft pick. Before the draft begins, you can set an auto-pick list to prioritize your preferred picks. If you miss your turn, the commish will have the power to automatically select the top available squad from your list.

Push Notifications: Stay in the Game

If you’ve enabled push notifications in the Squad Blitz app, you’ll receive alerts when the draft starts and when it’s your turn to pick. These notifications are a game-changer for college fantasy football players, keeping you locked in even during a hectic game day. While waiting for your turn, you can browse who is still available and check their stats from the previous season to make informed decisions.

League Size and Squad Size

The number of teams in your league is set by the league owner in the settings, with 8 teams being a sweet spot for balanced competition. The owner also determines the squad size—how many roster spots each team can draft. This flexibility lets you tailor the league to your group’s preferences, whether you want deep rosters for strategic depth or smaller squads for intense draft battles.

League Owner Notes: Running the Draft

As a league owner, you have extra responsibilities to ensure a smooth draft. You can set the draft date and the timer for each pick, keeping the pace brisk and on pace. However, as Squad Blitz is still in beta, you’ll need to manually start the draft when your league is ready. If a player runs out of time during their pick, you’ll need to trigger the auto-pick for them. Don’t worry—this feature is set to be revamped as the platform grows.

If something goes wrong and you need to redo the draft, reach out to Squad Blitz support via Discord for assistance. Before the draft, ensure you’ve configured the number of teams and roster sizes in the settings to match your league’s vision.

Why the Draft Matters for College Fantasy Football

The draft is the foundation of your college fantasy football season, where you build a squad to dominate your league. Squad Blitz’s snake draft, auto-pick options, and push notifications make it easy to create a competitive roster. With flexible settings and a user-friendly interface, the draft is your chance to shine.

How Scoring Works in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football

Squad Blitz brings a fresh twist to college fantasy football with a unique team-based scoring system that sets it apart from traditional platforms. Instead of focusing on individual players, Squad Blitz rewards you for the collective performance of college football teams across key categories.

Team-Based Scoring: A New Way to Play

Unlike typical fantasy football platforms that score individual players, Squad Blitz focuses on the performance of entire college teams in three categories: passing, rushing, and defense/special teams. For each category, you select two teams per week, and their real-world game stats translate into your fantasy points. This innovative approach lets you root for powerhouse programs or underdog squads from conferences like the SEC, Big Ten, or even the Sun Belt, adding a thrilling layer of strategy to your college fantasy football experience.

Passing Category: Air It Out

For your two passing teams, points are awarded based on their offensive output through the air. Here’s how it works:

  • Passing Yards: Rack up points for every yard thrown by your team’s quarterback and receivers.
  • Passing Touchdowns: Score big when your team connects for a touchdown pass.
  • Interceptions Thrown: Be cautious—interceptions will deduct points from your total.

Whether you’re banking on a high-flying Big 12 offense or a precise ACC passing attack, choosing teams with strong quarterback play is key to maximizing your points.

Rushing Category: Ground and Pound

Your two rushing teams earn points based on their ground game performance. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Rushing Yards: Every yard gained on the ground adds to your score.
  • Rushing Touchdowns: Touchdowns scored via the run boost your points significantly.
  • Lost Fumbles: Fumbles that result in turnovers will cost you points.

Select teams with dominant offensive lines or explosive running backs—think a hard-charging SEC squad or a Group of Five team with a breakout rusher—to pile up points in this category.

Defense/Special Teams: Make Big Plays

Your two defense/special teams selections earn points for game-changing defensive and special teams plays. Here’s how they score:

  • Turnovers Recovered: Interceptions and fumble recoveries add to your total.
  • Defensive and Special Teams Touchdowns: Score big with pick-sixes, fumble return touchdowns, or kickoff/punt returns for scores.
  • Sacks: Every quarterback takedown boosts your points.
  • Field Goals: Successful kicks contribute to your score.
  • Keeping Opponents Under 17 Points: Shut down the opposing offense, and you’ll earn bonus points.
  • Penalties: You’ll lose points if your team allows more than 17 points or over 300 yards to the opponent.

Choosing a stout defense like a Big Ten powerhouse or a special teams unit with a knack for big returns can make or break your week.

Scoring Updates and Finalization

Squad Blitz pulls all game data from an external API, ensuring accurate and reliable stats. Points are updated after each game finishes, so your score may fluctuate throughout Saturday as college football games wrap up. To account for any potential stat corrections, Squad Blitz doesn’t lock in final scores until Sunday night. This gives you a clear and accurate leaderboard, ensuring your team’s performance is fairly reflected—whether you’re riding a wave of points from a Big-12 shootout or a defensive slugfest in the MAC.

Why Scoring Matters for College Fantasy Football

Squad Blitz’s team-based scoring system adds a strategic twist to college fantasy football, letting you focus on the collective performance of your favorite programs. By selecting teams for passing, rushing, and defense/special teams, you can craft a lineup that maximizes points across all facets of the game. This approach rewards deep knowledge of college football trends and team strengths, making every Saturday a thrilling battle.

How Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) Mode Works in Squad Blitz for College Football

Squad Blitz’s Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) mode brings a fast-paced, high-energy twist to college fantasy football, letting you compete in weekly contests without the commitment of a season-long league. Perfect for fans who love the thrill of crafting new lineups each week, DFS mode challenges you to build a winning squad based on real-time college football performances. This guide explains how DFS mode works in Squad Blitz, optimized for college fantasy football fans who are ready to enjoy a new way to watch football each Saturday!

What is DFS Mode in Squad Blitz?

Unlike season-long leagues where you manage a squad for the entire college football season, Squad Blitz’s DFS mode lets you draft a new team each week and compete against others who are trying to outscore you one week at a time. You select college teams—not individual players—for specific categories (passing, rushing, and defense/special teams) to score points based on their real-world game performances. DFS mode is ideal for fans who want quick, action-packed contests, whether you’re targeting a big SEC matchup or a thrilling Group of Five showdown.

How to Play DFS Mode

1. Choose a Contest and Slate

In DFS mode, you start by selecting a contest from the DFS Lobby (accessible via the Squad Blitz app or website). Contests are based on a slate—a set of college football games for a given week, ranging from small 4-game slates to larger 12-game slates. Each slate offers different strategic challenges:

  • Small Slates (e.g., 4 games): With only 8 teams to choose from, your picks require precision to avoid repetitive lineups.
  • Large Slates (e.g., 12 games): More teams mean greater lineup diversity, letting you mix and match for optimal scoring.

Each week’s contest will be different in terms of teams on the slate, we’ll be trying new variations as this is our first full season with DFS!  Slates could range from SEC only to Top 25 teams to everyone involved that weekend.  Let us know how you’d build out your perfect Saturday slate.

2. Build Your Lineup

Once you’ve entered a contest, head to the Lineup Builder to build your squad. Your lineup consists of five positions:

  • 2 Passing Offenses: Select two teams to score points based on passing yards, passing touchdowns, and deductions for interceptions.
  • 2 Rushing Offenses: Choose two teams to earn points for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and deductions for lost fumbles.
  • 1 Team Defense/Special Teams: Pick one team to score points for turnovers, sacks, defensive/special teams touchdowns, field goals, and holding opponents under 17 points (with deductions for allowing over 17 points or 300+ yards).

Each team can only be used in one category, so even if a Big Ten powerhouse excels in multiple areas, you’ll need to choose strategically. Squad Blitz provides betting lines to help predict team performance, but note that predictive stats are still in development.

3. Salary Cap and Strategy

DFS mode uses a salary cap system, where each team is assigned a value based on how good that team is, among many other factors. You must build your lineup within the cap, balancing high-value teams (like a top-tier SEC offense) with undervalued gems (like a MAC team with a favorable matchup). Check team averages and opponent schedules to optimize your picks, and avoid teams on bye weeks to ensure active scoring.

4. Scoring and Updates

Points are awarded based on real-world game stats, scoring follows Squad Blitz’s team-based system:

  • Passing: Points for yards and touchdowns, deductions for interceptions.
  • Rushing: Points for yards and touchdowns, deductions for fumbles.
  • Defense/Special Teams: Points for turnovers, sacks, touchdowns, field goals, and low opponent scores; deductions for high opponent points/yards.

Scores may fluctuate on Saturday as games conclude, with final totals locked in on Monday night to account for stat corrections. Track your progress in the Scores tab to see how your lineup stacks up.

5. Compete and Win

After setting your lineup, watch the games and root for your selected teams. Compete against other players in your contest, with winners determined by total points scored. Top performers can earn bragging rights or rewards as the season goes on!

Why DFS Mode Matters for College Fantasy Football

Squad Blitz’s DFS mode offers a flexible, exciting way to engage with college football each week. Whether you’re a casual fan jumping into a 4-game slate or a strategist tackling a 12-game slate, DFS mode rewards your knowledge of matchups, team trends, and under-the-radar performers. It’s perfect for fans who want to test their skills without a season-long commitment, making every Saturday a chance to shine.

How to Set Your Lineup in Squad Blitz for College Fantasy Football

Setting your lineup each week is the heart of college fantasy football in Squad Blitz, where strategic decisions can make or break your path to the playoffs. With a unique team-based scoring system, Squad Blitz challenges you to maximize points by carefully selecting college teams for specific categories. This guide explains how to set your lineup from start to finish.

Understanding Your Lineup: Six Positions, One Team Per Category

In Squad Blitz, you set your lineup by choosing one team for each of the six available positions: two for passing, two for rushing, and two for defense/special teams. Unlike traditional fantasy football, you’re selecting entire college teams, not individual players, to score points based on their real-world performance. However, each team can only start in one category per week. For example, even if Alabama excels at passing, rushing, and defense, you can only slot them into one position, forcing you to make tough choices and diversify your roster.

How to Update Your Lineup

To set or adjust your lineup, head to the League Details section in Squad Blitz and go to the ‘My Squads’ section. This allows you to swap teams in and out of your six starting positions. Whether you’re starting a high-powered Big 12 offense for passing or a hard-hitting SEC defense, the Update button is your tool for crafting a winning lineup each week. Make sure to save your changes before the week’s games begin to lock in your selections.

Locked Teams and Weekly Deadlines

Once a team’s real-world game starts, they become locked for the week and cannot be moved in or out of your lineup. This makes timing critical—check game schedules to ensure your teams are set before kickoff. Squad Blitz pulls data from an external API, so scores update after games finish, with final totals locked in on Monday night to account for any stat corrections. Plan ahead to avoid being stuck with a locked team that underperforms.

Strategic Tips for Lineup Success

To maximize your scoring in Squad Blitz, consider these strategies when setting your lineup:

  • Check the Matchups: Look at who your teams are playing each week. Squad Blitz provides betting lines to give you insight into how your team is expected to perform. For example, a team facing a weak defense might be a great passing pick, while a stout Big Ten squad could shine in defense/special teams against a high-powered offense.
  • Monitor Team Averages: Squad Blitz displays your team’s average performance, helping you identify consistent performers or underachievers. Use this data to decide whether to stick with a reliable Group of Five rushing team or take a chance on a Power Four passing attack.
  • Avoid Bye Weeks: Don’t get caught with a team on a bye week in your starting lineup. Check the college football schedule and move teams with byes to your bench to avoid scoring zeros.
  • Stay Informed: While Squad Blitz doesn’t currently offer predictive stats, this feature is in development. For now, rely on betting lines, recent performance trends, and your college football knowledge to make informed decisions.

Why Lineup Setting Matters for College Fantasy Football

Setting your lineup in Squad Blitz is where strategy meets fandom. By carefully selecting teams for passing, rushing, and defense/special teams, you can capitalize on favorable matchups and avoid pitfalls like bye weeks or tough opponents. This team-based approach rewards deep knowledge of college football, from dominant Power Four programs to underrated Group of Five squads, making every lineup decision a chance to showcase your expertise.
